Indochina Discovery Visa

Postby g_traveller_b03c68f5 » Wed Nov 29, 2017 11:09 am

Hi,

Sorry if this question has been answered numerous times before, I've searched and not really found a definitive answer.

I'm a British citizen/passport holder, booked onto the Indochina Discovery tour - taking in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. I was just wondering, do I need to sort any visas out before travelling?

From what I understand:

Thailand - can be sorted on arrival/passport photo?
Cambodia - can be sorted at the border/passport photo x 2?
Vietnam - staying under 15 days. No visa needed?
Laos - can be sorted on arrival/passport photo x 2?

If anyone can confirm this for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Again, sorry if it's a daft question but I want to be certain I've got it right rather than face an awkward, potentially trip destroying, situation whilst on the tour.

Thanks in advance.

The best way to know for certain is to talk to the local embassies of the countries you are going to. They will be able to give you correct, up to date information

Thanks for the response.

I've tried e-mailing them all but, as of yet, only had a response from the Vietnam Embassy. They've told me I'm eligible for 'visa exemption', it's just everything else I've read has said to sort the Vietnam visa in advance.

I guess I'm just after someone to confirm this is correct for clarity. I'm a worrier!

I don't think you'll need the photo for Thailand. I'm US but think UK was in the same category of just going directly to Customs and Immigration (NOT Visa on Arrival). Fill out the form, walk up to the booth, present your entry card and passport, get waved through.

Thank you. I'm thinking (perhaps incorrectly) that I'll be OK sorting things on arrival in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. It's just Vietnam bugging me.

The embassy and a Google search say being there under 15 days, which I am, gives you a visa exemption. Just everything I've read in the G Adventures itinerary suggests presorting.

Anyone with recent experience help?

Just don't want to show up at the Vietnam border and get told 'sorry mate'.

Hi,

Sorry, just to post that I found an answer to my question. I spoke to someone who has previously been on the tour quite recently.

She didn't sort any visas before travelling and had no problems. Seemed to suggest if you're a British passport holder with 6 months on it, they'll look after you.

Also, she stressed to bring plenty of mosquito repellent!

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was as uncertain as myself.

Hi,

Did you manage to get any definitive answer on this? I too am from the UK but really confused by the visa information given.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yeah, I'd say so. The girl I spoke to had done this exact tour, hadn't pre-arranged anything visa wise and didn't run into any problems.

When are you going? I'm following her lead so, if you're going after me and it goes disastrously for me, I'll let you know
