Leave Items While on Inca Trail

Postby g_traveller_193610 » Tue May 23, 2017 4:01 pm

I've heard that you can leave items (locked up) behind while you are on the Inca Trail. I'm confused as to how this could work as the last hotel before the start of the trek (Inca Discovery Plus) is different than the hotel you return to after completion. Anyone done this and left luggage, or other behind while on the hike?

You pretty much have to leave things behind unless you want to carry them yourself. The porters will carry 6kg for you (that includes your sleeping bag). You will have your day pack with a few essentials like water, snacks, camera, etc. You won't want to be lugging your main suitcase/backpack up and down those hills! We came back to the same hotel so not sure why you will be at a different one. However, if you ARE at a different hotel you can be sure G has worked out a way to get your stuff to you! Or, the bus that brings you back may stop at the first hotel for you to pick things up. It was a fabulous trip! Enjoy!

When I did it, different trip but similar itinerary, we left all our stuff in Cusco except what we needed for the trail and the day and night before in Ollantaytambo. When we left for the Inca Trail, the extra things that we had for that one day, plus any souvenirs that people bought at the women's weaving cooperative, were taken back to Cusco by our CEO. She took care of them until we got back to Cusco (she didn't do the hike with us).
