Spam madness on the "off topic" forum. When will it stop??

Postby movieaddict_traveller » Fri Jul 07, 2017 6:09 am

I'm not sure this is the place to talk about this but there is for a few weeks now someone (maybe several fake accounts) spamming the off-topic page with chinese (I think) messages. There are several posted everyday (nearly every minutes!!!) and the all forum is therefore a mess. It's impossible to look at "new messages" as it is full with these spams!
Are the admin of the watering hole doing something about this? Can't you ban this person?
It is now impossible to see "active topic" messages and reply to help fellow travellers.

I hope this message will help to solve this very annoying problem!

Cheers,

Julia

After several days I received a response from G HQ IT to an email I sent awhile ago. They asked for "directions" to the spam - where is it, who is it, etc. I sent them a screen shot. That was this AM. Gotta admit that fact that they were 1. not aware of this despite multiple folks noting the problem and also using the report button, and 2. that they had to ask where the spam was, is a little concerning. Clearly, nothing has been done yet. We'll see... :?

That is definitely concerning that they claimed to not be aware of the problem! It is getting ridiculous!

They might have blocked the spam but there is still as of today, 24 hours later, 138 pages of spam before you get to any real posts in the "off topic" forum. An administrator ought to be able to delete the posts in a very short time. Or are there no longer any administrators out there? Doesn't seem like anyone is moderating the website.

I'm glad they have finally stopped, it's definitely feeling like we have been left without an admin! Good thing most of us are well behaved
