Postby charley23 » Mon Mar 21, 2011 3:02 pm

Going to BA in August. Looking into doing some lessons but dont really know where to start!! Any good experiences with language schools in Buenos Aires or the surrounding areas. Ideally i want to stay in Argentina for 3 months and do about 4 weeks lessons. If thats enough?

I studied Spanish in Buenos Aires and in Quito. Would definitely recommend Buenos Aires if you want better service and better level of schooling, although Quito is cheaper generally.

There are loads of Spanish Schools in BA to choose from, i would suggest going to some of the review sites and seeing what they say

You can see how other people have rated them. I think Expanish http://www.expanish.com is meant to be a good one and Vamos i heard good things about when i was there http://www.vamoispanish.com/es/mapa-del-sitio

I studied with http://www.dwsba.com.ar/ when I was in Buenos Aires...the school was great and they had really good teachers. The teachers really paid attention to our needs and made learning fun. I would highly recommend this school.

4 weeks of Spanish lessons are enough to get the basics and will help you travel around easily...I took 3 weeks of Spanish lessons to travel 4 months in South America and it really helped and made so much difference when travelling alone. I managed to move around using local transport easily, booked accommodation on arrival, struck up conversations with locals and was understood etc..

Happy Travels!

Hey Charly-

I think 4 weeks will definitely get you started with all of the basics, plus get your ear accustomed to "Porteño" Spanish. :D I´ve been studing for about 2 months now - and still feel like I have so much to learn, but have no problems in stricking up conversation or making travel arrangements. SO... it just depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Plus BsAs is so big, and has so much to do, that I still have not seen everything it has to offer!
I´ve been studying at Expanish the whole time and have been surprisingly pleased. Love my classes and my teacher! Plus I´ve made a bunch of friends here, that I hope to travel with later! Know in advance though, you have to pay for your own coffee. :(

¡Buena suerte!
