Travel Ideas

Postby timetraveler » Tue Oct 27, 2009 8:08 am

Hello there,
I'm new to the Watering Hole and have a general question for any of the seasoned travelers out there. I have up to 10 days to work with for a tour and a budget of around $1,500 US for the tour itself. I am looking for ideas on where to go. It doesn't really matter to me what country but would prefer something than will get me into the native culture or the natural surroundings. I'm a nature freak and enjoy roughing it, so I'm not necessarily interested in a "comfortable" trip. I would appreciate any input the moderators and members might have. Thanks.

Does the $1,500 include airfare? If so, are you American (the currency you quoted)?

If it's 'yes' and 'yes', that narrows it down. Airfare to some locations would top $1,500. Check into Central America (fairly cheap airfare from US) and maybe some South American destinations. There are a few shorter trips to Costa Rica that would probably fit.

Agreed that we'd need more info for the suggestions.

Your nearest departure city would help me, as then we could see what you are closest to aka what's cheaper. We were recommended to start with Thailand as an excellent gateway tour, and it was amazing.

Hope you can give us a bit more information and hopefully we can guide you to an amazing trip!

Cheers,

My nearest departure city would be Dayton, Ohio; but I can get to Indianapolis, Cincinnati, or Columbus within an hour. The $1,500 US does not include the airfare; just the tour cost. Thanks for the input.

Trips that would fit your mold that I would recommend would be:

And if you want to really go out side the box, and truly get cultural immersion try a volunteer trip:

I was able to type in some of your requirements as to length and price and got a short list of 74 trips, so there is plenty of choice.

Keep in mind some of these will require longer to get to and from, so that may affect if you want to take them.

Thanks Sinecure. Thailand and Ecuador were two that I was considering. I was also thinking of Morocco. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations there?
