Do you really need a towel for Costa Rica Quest?

Postby cassie1233 » Mon Apr 08, 2013 7:39 pm

Hi! A friend and I are going on the Costa Rica Quest tour that departs 4/13. The packing list includes a towel but that takes up a lot of room so we'd rather not bring if we don't have to. Is that really needed especially if we're staying in hotels that I'm sure have towels? Thanks for any advice!

Yes, your hotels will have towels but often you aren't allowed to take them out of the hotel. That means you may want a towel for the beach, for visiting the natural hotsprings in La Fortuna, for river rafting, or for ????, you get the idea.

An extra towel also comes in handy if you are hand washing your clothes. After you wring them out, roll them in the towel for a few minutes and the towel will absorb most of what you couldn't wring out allowing them to dry that much faster. This also means you need less clothes = more room for the towel.

It doesn't have to be a bulky towel. You can go to an outdoor store and buy a backpacker towel. A "shamwow" towel (or a fake one) works, girls can use a shawl type scarf or sarong (I guess guys could too if they wanted to), for several trips I had a patchwork towel made up of several dollar store microfibre dishclothes.

thanks Janice!! I won't worry about sacrificing the packing room if I'm going to use it :)

Yeah, I usually pack a small quickdry camp towel...

Just don't forget to put in with your laundry as they can pick up funky smells very fast.

sarongs work great as a towel or as a beach mat...sand doesn't stick to it like a towel and it dries quickly...and takes up almost no space :)
