What to do in Kathmandu?

Ancient temples swallowed by the jungle, rice paddies, local markets, stunning beaches, fiery cuisine, smoking incense at the feet of a golden Buddha, and the friendliest locals around.

What to do in Kathmandu?

Postby tesla » Sat Oct 06, 2012 6:41 pm

.... it rhymes!

I'm doing the "Nepal Adventure" tour in the end of february. I'll have a day and a half extra in Kathmandu, so I would like to know if anyone has some good advice on what to do in the city that's _not_ in the itinerary? (Obviously I don't want to just go see the same things twice.) Also, general advice/experience regarding this tour is appreciated as well :-)

Take a sightseeing flight over Everest and the other Himalayan giants.

Hire taxis for short journey to Bhaktapur and/or Patan. Smaller villages more traditional but very scenic. You can easily find local guides there to show you around for a few rupees. Bhaktapur was used as a movie set for Little Buddha. I visited both and consider them the highlights of my Kathmandu visit since they allowed me to interact much closer with the locals.

Definitely check out Durbar Square and Bodnath Stupa!

We did the Nepal Adventure in October 2012 and had the best time!
