I would say:

Bring along a roll of toilet paper, as it is many times missing in the toilet.
And stick to your tour guide and listen to him, what he or she is advising.
Hope for you that you have a local for a tour guide as I had on my trip.
India is amazing.

Lot's of people get sick, I did as well, but only when the tour was finished and
I was on my own checking out restaurants in Mumbai. The places during the trip
which were recommended by our tour guide were spot on and nobody had
any problems.

Maybe be careful near airports/train stations or any other crowded places.
India can be quite overwhelming at times and it's best to look like an indian there
