International Sim Cards

Hi There,

I'm going to Asia and Australia and although I am planning to use Skype for calls home, my parents want me to have a phone with an international sim card. I personally think they are a rip off, but does anyone know of any good ones/has anyone used one before?

To people just tend to get a sim card from wherever they travel to and use that to make any calls to other people within the country itself?
