Africa Over Christmas and New Years (DZLD)

Postby rrjz » Fri Oct 05, 2012 9:20 am

Hey
I have noticed a lot of people travel over Christmas and New Years. I really want to go back to Africa next year but I am trying to decide the best time to go. I am thinking anywhere from October through to December. I would love to go over Christmas and New Years but I feel kind of strange making someone work on Christmas. I realize they will be working even if I am not on the trip. I am just trying to gather some comments from other travellers to see if it is a good idea to travel over Christmas or if I should be planning for Oct or Nov.

It will probably come down to personal choice but wanted to throw the question out there.

Thanks for any responses in advanced.

1. They're going to work anyway if the tour is offered.
2. If fewer people attend, they will get fewer tips and therefore make less money for having to work during that period.
3. Many people are not Christian (particularly in Africa or Asia) and therefore have no particular reason to NOT work on Christmas.
4. It's frequently easier for you to get this particular timeframe off from work so why not take advantage of it if it's offered?
5. At least you won't be microwaving your meal this year and thinking about how everyone else is with their family ...
