China Express

Postby laura_e » Thu Sep 20, 2012 3:15 am

I read on the trip notes that our luggage shouldn't be too big (no XXL cases) - I have a large rucksack which will be under 20kg - will this be OK for this trip - I can't go any smaller as China is just the first stop on a 4 month round the world trip although I am trying to pack light!!

Also, do I need walking boots for this trip or will ordinary trainers eg converse be OK? I could do with not packing them as they are so big and heavy.

Departing next week so just having last minute packing panics!!!

Hi Laura,

A rucksack upto 70l is fine (that's what I used when I went travelling for 4 months) and just make sure you can lift your bag with ease. The trains have limited space and most luggage is placed under the lower bunk so nothing too bulky.

Walking boots is more of a personal preference and what is easy for you to walk in, which in this case will be the Great Wall. Will you be hiking in your travels after China? When I need my walking boots on any trip then I always wear them and take them off on the flight...saves luggage space and solves the weight issue!

Happy Travels!

I'm doing China Express from 3rd Nov. Could anyone tell me a postal address for G Adventures in Beijing or Shanghai to put down on my Chinese visa application?

I use the joining hotel for address. If you go here: ... resources/

And click on trip details, you'll find the address for your joining hotel:

Chong Wen Men Hotel
#2 Chongwenmen Xi Da Jie
Beijing, China
Tel: 86 10 65122211

I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list
