bringing Indian rupees into India?
Hi,
I'll be flying into India from the US and online I've read that I can not bring rupees into India. Just checking if this is true...?
Thanks!

It is true, and if they check you could get in trouble. I don't know how much trouble but I wouldn't risk it ... a second time, (as I brought with me on my last trip, but I crossed the border overland from Nepal, where they don't even have X-Rays).

It's true. There is a law but it doesn't seem to be strictly enforced. I personally take cash and exchange at the airport once landed there without any problems.

Thank you both so much........I'd rather be safe than sorry. In your experience were places to change money open 24 hrs at the airport?

Re: bringing Indian rupees into India?
I'm Indian American and have traveled to India on average every 2 years over the past 10-15 years to see my family. I regularly bring rupees with me and have never been asked about whether I am carrying. Nor have I ever been searched. So, even though there might be some law (which I am not aware of personally), it definitely has not been enforced.
