JaliscoJudy says bye

Postby JaliscoJudy » Sat Dec 03, 2011 11:34 am

Hey everyone.

Just want to let you all know that I'm traveling on from my role as a moderator here at the Watering Hole. It has been a great 4 years for me. Seeing your amazing photos and reading your fascinating reports has tripled my travel wish list in the time I've been here. Places I'd never heard of before are now at the top of the list.

I now understand the issues regarding taking malaria pills (but are vivid dreams a pro or a con?) and getting rabies shots and yellow fever vaccinations. I know that I must, at a minimum, pack flip flops and sports sandals for every G trip, with the possible exception of Antarctica where boots are the issue. I know when to bring my hiking boots, sleeping bag, water bottle and mosquito net. I understand how altitude sickness affects some people and what to do about it. I know lots of tricks to help me pack light (go naked and buy stuff along the way, right?). I promise never to use traveler's checks again and will only take newer bills in good condition and small denominations to Africa. I will always book transfers when I arrive in the middle of the night. I will take smaller memory cards and keep them separate from my camera. I know where to keep my passport at all times. I wonder how the rest of us get along without MEC. And, I am fully versed the pros and cons of backpack v. rolling duffel. And, because I'm not a photographer myself, I want to book a trip with ExplorerWannaBe or DanielBMe or Zuleika or PaulTeolis or AdamfromCanada, or one of the many others of you whose pictures captivate me, in hopes that I can get copies of after the trip. (I'll find the bird, you photograph it. Deal?)

I want to thank everyone who shares their knowledge and experience and love of travel here, including our terrific moderators: sinecure, jimshu, ballu, and TravelFun. I'll be back often to see what you're all up to, so post those trip reports, okay?

Buen viaje!

JJudy...

Oh boy, you WILL be missed. I've enjoyed your informative posts and, of course, your bird pics and posts. The forum will be somehow "less" with your departure.

Hope the best for you is next.... and that you discover a lost flock of dodo'es!

Oh noooooooooo, Judy, Judy, Judy (spoken in a bad Cary Grant accent) don't go!

Our little girl is all grown up and moving on. As Graybeard said, you will be greatly missed! I always enjoy reading your posts. It's funny how people you've never met, somehow feel like family. I wish you continued happy journeys and I'm sure we'll see you popping in here now and again. The forum is a like a delicious cheesecake, you can never quite stay away (provided you love cheesecake)...

BTW one year we will all have to get together and do a trip lol. It would be a blast! Italy in 2013?

Ciao

PS
You know you are Equadorian when ...
You smell "chuletas o pernil" cooking in your house from down the block.

My theory is that the dodos are migrating to Italy and that they should arrive in 2013. Who's in? :D

I'll miss you too, Judy! I always loved your stories about your Mom, what an inspiration she was. Such a small world with her connection to my next-door neighbour and their respective homes in Ajijic.

Best of luck in the future, perhaps one day our walkers will bump into each other!

Gee, am I sad to read this! But all good things come to an end and we travellers move on to other things. Having been working behind the scenes here I know how much Judy has been great at making sure the wheels run smoothly, the new members are welcomed, sage advice dispensed, and she manages to beat us most times to kicking the spammers out!
So sad to see you going Judy.

But wait, there's more!
Kay and I have planned our Ecuador/Galapagos trip for a Moderator meet-up in Cuenca at Judy's house! Only it won't be a Mod meet-up now because Judy has gone and spoiled all that fun! So it will be a Mod and past-Mod meet-up.
Oh well, roll out the barrels of that home made hooch you guys make from the sugar cane there! Get plenty brewing!

And Daniel, we'll look into Italy...the way that place is going down the gurgler there'll be some bargains around!

Judy

I hope you enjoy your next endeavor as much as you have here with us, and keep that spare room open for me. And as every one said you are always welcome back.
