NZ South Island Sojourn

Postby kris_nyc » Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:14 pm

Has anyone here taken the South Island Soujourn tour? http://www.gapadventures.com/trips/south-island-sojourn/ONSS/2011/ It seems very expensive to me. Is most of the cost attributable to the cost of accomodations?

Any feedback on the trip itself and the itinerary?

I'm considering it for November, assuming I can afford it and the trip gets confirmed.

I'm looking at this trip for next year...but no dates for 2012 yet !

Not sure if accommodation is the main cost. This is what's stated in the Trip Details:
Accommodation
Local hotel (2 nts), Hostel (2 nts), Motel (5 nts), Local Lodge/Homestay (2 nts), West Coast pub (1 nt).

Hopefully someone who has been can tell us both

I was comparing this trip to similar ones by other operators, which are at least half the price. It seemed like the biggest difference between this trip and others are the accomodations (other trips are all hostels) and that other trips do not have a the Trans Alpine train ride and the glacier walk at Franz Josef included in the cost. I've taken several "standard" level GAP trips now, and I found them all to be a really good value for the cost, so I was just wondering why this particular trip cost so much more than those offered by other operators.

The higher standard of accom. will make a big difference, and including the Trans Alpine. The Glacier walk also.
Difference between hostels and motels will be quite high. $30 and $100 per person per night I'd guess.
