multiple currencies

Postby hevtrev57 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 5:34 am

Hi all, :D

I'm travelling to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, KL and HK this summer, and have been wondering if anyone has any advice about what to do about currencies? Is it best to exchange certain sums of money before heading out there, or is better to take US dollars, and exchange as I go? Or am I best taking a debit card, and being charged fees? I'm pretty confused, and would appreciate any advice you can offer.

Cheers and happy travels!!

Hi there, great mix of places you're going to. I would say it's best to take US dollars and exchange as you go along and keep some as back-up AND a debit/credit card.

There's plenty of ATMs around and your local guide will give you an indication of much money would be required in each country...then just withdraw the money to cover longer periods of time, this way you'll keep commission fees to a minimum.

Hope this helps!

Happy Travels!

Hi
Make sure you don't have too much cash on you - most insurance companies will only reimburse cash to a (relatively small) maximum. If you arrive by plane to any of your destinations, exchange some there so you have enough to cover yourself for a day or so.
