Has anyone cycled French and Italian Rivieras?

Walk or cycle the historic trails, picnic under an olive tree, explore the Greek Islands by yacht or just watch the world go by from a Tapas bar in Barcelona.

Has anyone cycled French and Italian Rivieras?

Postby carmstrong » Sat Mar 29, 2008 9:25 pm

We are going on an organized cycling tour in Provence in September (with VBT), and northern Italy in October with some friends (Bolzano to Verona and eventually down to Florence). Instead of coming home for three weeks in between, we are wondering about the feasibility of using that 3 weeks to cycle from Provence down to and along the rivieras, maybe to Genoa and then north? If inland at all, it looks like you're into some big hills, but there may be a bikeable coast road??? Or is the traffic insane??? (Pretty hilly going north from Genoa, but only for 30-40km?)

If anyone has any knowledge or experience, comments or suggestions would be appreciated. (We are 56-year-old regular cyclists with a little pannier touring experience - B&Bs, etc., non-camping - accustomed to 50-80 km/day, or 100+ in a pinch).

I notice that you have not yet heard from other cyclists. I'm going to bump this post to the top of the list to make it more visible.
