Booking a flight with G?

Postby cate_lee » Thu Jul 04, 2013 8:20 pm

Has anyone ever booked their flight through G? If so, how was the experience?

I've always booked my air tickets with my travel agent. My family's been using her for 20+ years and she's fantastic. Never a single worry. But it seems like that G is offering an extra $100 discount promo if booking the flight through them directly.

Also on a semi-related note, has anybody flown TACA? Looking to fly from Toronto to San Jose, CR. The reviews on line I've seen are somewhat mixed.

Thanks. :)

I've flown TACA a few times. The last time was from San Jose (Costa Rica) to Houston with a lay over in San Salvador. We had a tight connection in Houston (1 hour 25 minutes) to our connecting Air Canada flight to Calgary. When the plane was pulling into the terminal, our names as well as two others who had the same connection were paged to identify ourselves to staff when we got off the plane. We were escorted to immigration, put in the fast lane, escorted down to baggage claim and through customs and then put on the interterminal train with instructions on where to get off. We made our connection with 15 minutes to spare.

Unlike Air Canada, United and Continental, TACA feeds you as well even on short flights (San Jose to San Salvador is under an hour and we got a hot breakfast sandwich and then a full breakfast on the next leg).

Given a choice, my preference for airlines to Latin America are (in order): TACA, Air Canada, then United and American. Haven't tried any of the others to compare.

Only time I tried to book through G Adventures was 5 years ago in one of their stores. They couldn't get me on the flights I wanted (my friends had already booked using points) but I managed to go on line and do it myself without any problems. Did you check if your travel agent can get the same discount? Often travel agents can get the same, or better, discounts than are available on G Adventures web site directly.

Thanks for the feedback Janice.

Actually I'm not sure if the $100 discount is off the air ticket or the tour price itself. (Sent an email to G to confirm.)

Funny you should mentioned TACA feeding you , because I was thinking the it seems like the Latin American airlines do that. When I flew LAN from Lima-Iquitos and Lima-Cuzco, neither of them were more than 2 hours and they had a nice little snack box and I was thinking "Really? Wow! I got nothing from American Airlines flying Toronto-Miami that was twice as long."

I have booked flights with them for a third time now....the first set went off without a hitch to asia and back, there was a roundtrip flight from bangkok to koh samui that they told me to book myself as i could get it cheaper. the second set also went smoothly and that was all over Africa. now I have booked regina to Portugal, then spain to morocco and then home again to Canada..meeting up with my sister in Toronto...and they managed to arrange flights that hooked us up. I mainly booked through them because then my insurance covers the flights as well. they found similar flight costs as i did on my own, but theirs had better times for me.

I usually book my flights through G...it's worth calling them for a quote to compare with the agent you normally use.
