Nazca lines flight?

Postby fev87 » Thu Aug 25, 2011 7:03 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm doing the Absolute Peru tour in November this year and was looking at the Nazca lines.
Do you think it's safe to do one of the optional flights?
I think I read somewhere there is a poor safety record...

cheers,

Andrew

Nothing is safe in the world, your bus could get hit by a truck driving through the narrow roads in Peru or the same thing can happen right at your door step, but I did the flight some years back and I felt complety safe and it was worth the money.
We could see all the famous things like the monkey, the hummingbird, the condor and the astronaut.

I did it, didn't feel unsafe...kind of felt like puking though.

It really is the only way to actually see the lines...flight is a little bumpy, but I think it was the circling of each formation twice (once for each side of the plane) that did me in. Feeling sick is not uncommon.

I just came back from a Peru trip with GAP and did the flight over the Nazca lines. There are multiple airlines offering these flights and our GAP leader informed us that the company they book with is chosen by GAP for their reputable safety record. The planes look to be in great condition and I never felt unsafe. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it!

Hi Andrew,

The absolute Peru tour is amazing. I did it last may.

The nazca lines didn't feel unsave but as many I also felt sick. One good advice, don't eat breakfast before you do it.

Hi, does anyone know which company it is that GAP recommends? I'm booked for a trip which doesn't include Nazca, but was thinking about going there on my own beforehand ... I know the (British) FCO website warns against the safety record of some of the companies ... And yes, I know not everything in life is safe, but I like to make an informed choice :)

Did you guys book these locally with your GAdv rep?
Or shopped around while you were there?

I land in Lima on the night of Tues 15th Nov and was hoping to do the Nazca Lines on Thurs 17th. Will I be ok turning up and booking the day before? Or book in advance recommended?

Also, how much does it cost approx?

Our rep took us to the airport and advised us what operators were safe.
But we paid them directly.

I don't remember what it costs.

We showed up and paid and were flying a few minutes later.

I took the flight in 2005, so many years ago and I paid for a half hour flight 53 US-Dollars.
So it might now be a bit more, but anyway probably not less than 50 US and I would say not more than a 100.

I can't remember if we had to book in advance, but if so your GAP-CEO will do it for you and if not he or she will help you to get to the right place. If we booked in advance then it was on the morning of the day we took the flight.

Thanks for the replies!

Will I know who my CEO is prior to travelling?

My PID tour starts on 18th Nov, and I'll be getting there on the 15th and staying in a different hotel before joining up with GAdv on the 18th. So will I still be able to book it if I let someone from the hotel know in advance?

You'll meet your CEO on the first night of your tour. There's no requirement to book in advance if your trip goes there.

The trip doesn't go there (http://www.gadventures.com/trips/inca-discovery/PID/2011/) so that's why I'd like to plan in advance.
Any ideas?

Sorry to be a pain

Not a pain at all, are you looking to attach this to the start or end of your trip?
