Iguassu - Optional Activities

Postby carlito25 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 12:02 pm

Hi everyone!

I am doing In Search of Iguassu from BA to Rio in July and see that the current optional activities while visiting the falls are the following:

Helicopter Tour 100 USD
Aventuras boat tour 150 ARS
Rapelling 60 BRL
Rafting 90 BRL
Rafain Show 75 BRL
Paraguai 20 BRL
Itaipu Dam 35 BRL
Bird park 35 BRL
Jungle & Falls excursion $40

As of right now the helicopter tour and the boat tour sound very interesting, but I am wondering if anyone has knowledge about the others? And how many of these activities can be reasonably done in a day or two?

Thank you everyone,

~Carl

Hi Carl,

I did the helicopter ride, boat ride and the jungle walk towards the falls all in one day from the Brazilian side. All three were awesome and each gave a different perspective of the grandness of the falls...a MUST-DO.

Hopefully others who have done the other activities can comment better than me.

Hi,

For what its worth, my trip was Brazil side based.

Our day trip to see the falls from the Argentine side was the must do.
I assume you are doing that, on your way.

Some of the group went to Paraguay from Brazil, but they were not impressed.
There was discussion about the dam. Can't remember if anyone went,
but it was not popular with our group.

TravelFun and Eric - thank you kindly.

I was also wondering, if the Rafain show was at night and included dinner?

Also, any experience or word of mouth knowledge about the rappelling or rafting?

Your tour leader will help and will either book the activity on your behalf or will guide you on how to book it yourself...majority of these are local based where local companies and/or guides are used.

The rapelling was cool! Definitely gave one awesome panoramic view of the falls, check out this feature for more info:

Also definitely do the boat ride from the Argentinian side, it takes you further and is cheaper.

Enjoy, you'll be blown away!

I did go to paraguay for a couple hrs, but don't recall paying for that as an optional activity. It was a couple hrs of shopping nothing more. I also went to the show at night. It was fun. Of course the highlight of this part of your trip will be seeing the falls. I hope you see it from both sides it truly is an amazing sight.

I did some a lot of them (not with GAP, but with a similiar company); we arrived with a night bus, spent the first day on the brazilian side, then the second day on the argentinian side and the third day was free (but with options like the dam or Paraguay) and in the evening on to another night bus.

-The Bird Park (Brazilian Side) was nice to see some local birds like the tucans up close and in the end you could hold a parrot and a snake and take a picture.

- Aventuras Boat tour (argentinian side) was great, you drove through the jungle and then with a boat right under two of the smaller falls, and you were really wet afterwards, but because of the sun you got dry very fast.

- Paraguay was really only two or three hours, with not more to do then wander around a big street market and the shopping centers, where you get cheap electronic stuff, but as I will not travel to this part of the world again, I took the tour to say that I was in Paraguay !

- I believe the "Rafain Show" (Brazil) is the musical show we've seen, that's good to see as well and it's in the evening so you will not miss something else. It's with a great "all-you-can-eat"-buffet and the show will take you on a musical and dance-trip of the whole southamericas
