Peru 2011 - medical shots?

Postby envirochick72 » Mon Apr 11, 2011 1:32 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows what Canada/Peru is requesting as mandatory shots for the trips there that include amazon and inca trail?

I believe Yellow Fever is still mandatory for visiting the jungles of Peru....but others will be highly recommended...

I didn't need Yellow Fever last year for the Inca Trail. I only made sure I had my Hep A & B and that was it. You really don't need anything else really. When we weren't on the Inca Trail we were in hotels.

If you travel to other countries after Peru, you may need a Yellow Fever certificate to enter them. Even though there is no Yellow Fever risk on the Inca Trail trip, Peru does have Yellow Fever in some parts, other countries, like Ecuador, require a certificate from anyone who has traveled to Peru first.

As Judy said.. we were advised that Peru may request proof of vaccination for yellow fever if you came from Bolivia.

I'm not sure if it works this way in other provinces, but in Alberta we have Health Units with nurses who specialize in travel vaccinations. I made an appointment with the travel nurse at my local health unit in May (I leave in July). When I booked on the phone, the receptionist said she thought the recommended vaccinations would be Hep A & B, Yellow Fever and possibly Malaria. I can let you know for sure after I've had my appointment if you'd like.
