Travelling from Peru into Bolivia- yellow fever certificate?

Postby ahex1350 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:36 am

Hi

I'm travelling from Peru into Bolivia on the Bolivia on a shoestring tour in May. Although yellow fever vaccination is not required in the areas i'm travelling to, I've now read that Peru is considered an infected zone and therefore wonder whether I will in fact need a vaccination and certificate despite travelling originally from the UK?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i travel in 5 weeks time.

Thanks
Amy

Hi Amy, I've had a look at your trip and checked the UK gov site:

I don't see any reason for getting the Yellow Fever vaccination BUT always check with your local doctor or travel health clinic for up-to-date news for the countries you intend to visit.

Where did you read about Peru being an infected zone ???

We were not required to have the yellow fever shot to enter Bolivia from Peru... however we were recommended to have yellow fever shot to re-enter Peru after being in Bolivia.

Its the Amazon jungle areas in Peru that are regarded a yellow fever areas and I needed the vaccine to visit those areas (I went to Puerto Maldonado).
If your not visiting the jungle then you should be OK.

Thanks all

I know i do not need a vaccination as i'm not travelling to jungle areas, but as far as the Bolivian border is concerned, they consider parts of peru to be infected areas and obviously they don't know where I've travelled whilst in Peru...

Think i'll chance it as research and posts on here have suggested the bolivian border control is pretty lax re. checking yf certs.

thanks again
