I brought a bag of oranges at the gap guides suggestion. I gather the homestays get a lot of business so I liked the idea of something useful, not something to throw on the heap of souvenirs that aren't incredibly handy in their day to day life.
I'm used to the cold and like it, but my sleeping bag was for summer, I didn't expect such cool night temps so that's my tip, bring a decent sleeping bag, winter hat for bedtime, warm socks etc. FYI that was early March.
