Spending the night at FCO (Rome Airport)

Postby gcc » Sat Apr 06, 2013 6:02 am

I am going on the London to Rome Adventure in May. My question is, safety wise since I am a female traveling alone, would it be ok for me to get to FCO about 9pm and spend the night there for a Tuesday 6:35 am flight or is it safer to get a hotel? I don't mind sitting on the floor or sitting in a chair but I do mind safety issues (ie mugging, theft, etc).

I've spent the night there for exactly the same reasons you cite albeit 20 years ago. FCO had intensive physical security when I went through there so I wouldn't worry about mugging at all but theft while you sleep is a whole other problem. I would use luggage locks to keep your carry-ons closed while you sleep and think about using them as a pillow or backrest.
