Costa Rica money

Postby bakkie » Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:30 am

Hi

I've read some advice on this forum about money in Costa Rica but wanted to ask a question. Some people have said its easier and better to get money out while your there out of ATM's what type of card did people use was it credit, debit or pre-paid cards? I'm really starting to panic about this please could someone help and tell me what they did.

Thanks
bakkie

No need to panic, it was quite easy! We just returned 2 days ago. We brought a mix of cash and a credit card. The activities (rafting, canyoneering, ziplining) all accepted credit cards. Some of the smaller restaurants did not take credit cards. Also, do not bring large bills in cash (I wouldn't bring any denomination higher than $50 bills, and would probably only bring $20 bills or lesser.) There were several in our group who used the ATM, but they commented on the service charges (one person said it was $8 for the transaction fee.)
So, my recommendation is cash and credit card!
