Volcano Trail - Money

Postby frontloop » Mon Jan 07, 2013 8:25 am

Hi,

I'm doing the Volcano Trail in about 2 weeks.
Now I'm wondering how much money i should bring. Any advice from someone who has already been on this tour?
And can I pay everywhere with US-$ or do I need local currency?
I don't want to carry too much money, if I can get it easily from ATMs. Travelers cheques are useless, as I understand, since no one wants to take them, right?

I haven't been on this trip...but have been on trips to Nicaragua and Guatemala. You can get money from ATMs, and it's best to pay in local currency. Ditch the traveller's cheques.

Im currently on this trip. Finding an ATM isn't hard and some even give you the option of USA currency as well. In Honduras paying with USA dollars actually seems to be the preference in particular at the Bay Islands so I'd suggest a few hundred US dollars at least as a back up.

Enjoy
