XVAESX141106: Antarctica Classic In Depth - Nov 06, 2014

Postby skidy1 » Sat Jun 28, 2014 6:01 am

Hi all,

I'm going on the Antarctica Classic In-depth tour on November the 6th and arriving in Ushuaia on the 5th - Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to see if there are any other solo travellers (or groups or anyone really!) going on this trip - I will be "out on the town" on the 5th for a few drinks, so would be great to meet up with people going on the same trip beforehand.

Also I would love to hear from people who have been on this trip before - What can I expect? I have built my expectations up so high for this tour I just hope it is as amazing as I expect it to be.

thanks!

Hi Paul,

I"m also going on the Antarctica Classic in Depth Nov 6. - also a solo traveller.

I'll be arriving in Ushuaia Oct 28.

Meeting up the night before sounds like a great idea!

I was really looking forward to camping on the ice- so devistated that they are not offering that anymore, but i've sighned up for the kayaking- from what i read on the forum it sounds like i'm going to be a little inexperienced....

Are you planning any other trips in SA?

hi gang,
I will be the expedition photographer on this sailing, (although I will be on the ship starting with the first trip in October) So any questions you might have about what to bring on the camera end
let me know. I will on the ship to help everyone with their photography.

It's an awesome time to be in Antarctica in November. Lots of snow and ice and plenty of
penguins.

looking forward to seeing you on board.
cheers

Me too me too, I am also booked on the Nov 6th tour...super excited!! I've been on the boat before for the arctic so I'm really excited to be back on it. I'm also traveling alone and booked for the kayaking. Arriving into Ushuaia around on 4th. Haven't booked my flight but getting on that soon. Getting together before hand sounds great. Hi Katie,

You've got a bit more free time before the trip than me then in Ushuaia lol, you'll have to scout out the decent bars for us? What hotel/hostel are you staying in while in Ushuaia? I looked at the camping too - Would have definitely done that if it was available, I've booked on the Kayaking too, and feel the same - I've done Kayaking before many times, but from reading what other people have put I'm not sure I'll be up to it :|

I've got no trips planned in SA before unfortunately - Due to work/holidays etc I've literally had no time left to string this trip out longer, how about you? I'm thinking of booking a Catamaran tour on the Beagle channel in Ushuaia though before the trip and I'm tempted to try and extend my stay for some more days after in Ushuaia.

Paul, I will be taking my Canon EOS-M, I currently own the 22mm, and 18-55mm lenses and would appreciate any advice on what other lenses to take? I have the lens adaptor so am not just restricted to the EF-M range.

Hi Lori! How exciting is it!!! That's cool that you've already been on the boat! We will have to sort a meeting place closer to the time?

hi skidy1,

if you can get any other type of lens something in the 200mm range would be good
I always had ample range with my 70-200 F2.8 and a convertor when needed. I am bringing
my 300mm this season, which I borrowed last year and it was fantastic range wise.

i think there are decent primes out there for the eos-m, let me know what you
find…

Thanks Paul,

I have just purchased a 55-200mm Canon EF-M lense f4.5-6.3 for my EOS-M - I think this should do the trick, I have now got:

- 22mm EF-M f2.0
- 18-55mm EF-M
- 55-200mm EF-M f4.5-6.3

I think this gives me a decent range of lenses for different situations

HI all, yes being on the boat before makes me more excited. It was so amazing last time, guides, food, scenery, just everything was awesome. As for the kayaking I have a friend that did similar trip last year and she hadn't kayaked much and she was fine. I'm sure you'll be good. Haven't booked my hotel yet but will in a few weeks. we can discuss a dinner spot then.
