Hey,

I am Steffi from Vienna, a 27 year old girl. I just booked this tour and it ist my first time travelling solo. So I would be happy to get to know somebody here, who joins this tour as well.

I am sooo excited :)

Hi Steffi! I'm Peter, a 29 year old guy - also travelling solo for the first time! I'm also booked on the tour departing November 2nd! Very excited to meet you in 97 days! Greetings from Gothenburg, Sweden (although i'm from England originally).

Hi Peter,

I am so happy about your message! When do you arrive in Lima on 2nd? I am asking, because my flight arrives already at 7am. So I have a whole day free in Lima, and I would be happy to spend it with someone else :)

I am so excited about the Inka Trail. Have you ever been at the hight of 13,776ft? I think I have to start some training already ;)

Looking forward hearing from you!

Hi Steffi,
Actually my flight arrives at 02:05am on the 2nd, so i'll definitely have the whole day to spend there! Actually that makes me wonder if I should book a hotel room and try and get some sleep when I land, since it will be literally the middle of the night!

I started my shopping this week for trekking things - bought my day pack and a bunch of other bits and pieces. I've never been anywhere near 13,776ft outside of an airplane! I'm wondering how best to train for it, since November will be coming into Swedish winter which really isn't ideal for multi-day treks! I can easily hike 10-15km now, but the altitude is what worries me!

Have you been on a Gadventures trip before? This is my first time doing anything like it - I'm so excited!

Look forward to meeting you, and everyone else on the trip too!

Peter

Hi Peter,

2am ... really the middle of the night. I would definitely try to get some sleep somewhere.

Yeeah, I also spent already a few hours in a hikingshop... Quite expensive such functional stuff...

I have holiday next week and I will do some treks. Let's see how it will work with the altitude. But in Vienna there are some specialists, who offer high altitude trainig. I consider doing this. And maybe regular workout, crosstrainer or so. I always wanted to do this again, and now I have a good reason for it;)

This is also my first trip on GAdventures. But I will do a second trip right after the 'Quest of the Gods' - 'Iguassu & Beyond'.

Best greetings,
Steffi

Oh wow, i'm so jealous of you getting to go to Iguassu as well! My family visited there in 2011 but I wasn't able to go with them because of work. Straight after the QotG trip i'm flying back to Sweden, and then immediately back to Las Vegas for a work exhibition. I don't think i'll even have time to wash my clothes in between!

I did a 15km training hike today, which went pretty good... it started tipping down with rain after 5km so I got to test my wet weather gear as well. Good luck with your training and I hope you enjoy the holiday as well. Looking forward to November!

Hello Peter and Steffi
Good to hear Steffi you are excited about your trip. So I am I for the Patagonia. Peter I may not be going as high as 13776 ft but in Nepal I have been up to 17000 ft. During my trip to Base camp we had no problem until 8000 ft as we approached 13000 we could feel thin air. Everyone is different to react towards altitude but I would definitely consider Diamox or herbal Ginko Biluba. At 8000 ft you can start taking these meds it will help. Being a pharmacist I carried quite few meds which made me popular in the group. I did felt altitude sickness at 17000 ft but the key is to acclimatize more you stay longer at high altitude your body is prepared to go further. Hope you both enjoy the trip!

Hi Steffi

What dates do you do the Inca Trail? I am part of Absolute Peru tour leaving on the 25th October but start the Inca Trail on the 6th November I think??

Kind regards
