Hi! I'm on this trip too. Just booked yesterday and traveling solo. I'm spending a couple of nights in BA then headed to Ushuaia. I arrive around 2pm on the 17th. I plan on doing the optional hike on the 18th before we board the ship. I'm a 36 year old female living in San Francisco. Looking forward to meeting all of you. Feel free to FB me. Count me in on this trip too. I'm travelling solo as well, looks like there's lots of us "Solo" travellers. Still organising my outbound flights - I've gotten as far as Sydney to Santiago (Chile) on points (yay) just getting the next leg sorted out - to Ushuaia.
Cant wait, very very excited.

Hi to everyone on this trip. I'm Craig 32, from England and will be travelling by myself.

I will be in Buenos Aries from the 9th - 14th. And plan to have trips to Iguaçu falls, Montevideo, Tigre delta, as well as a 1 day polo lesson!

If you're doing any of the above (and you're not an axe murderer) or you just want to know a few faces before the trip, then drop us a line.

Add me on Facebook Craig Quigley (good looking one holding a baby ha!). Or E-mail me Craig.Quigley@bibbydist.co.uk

Hi again.
I'm thinking about doing the Kayaking. Not sure about the camping although many of you are doing it and it seems like its a popular option- sleeping on ice doesn't really appeal ( am I missing something??) , but paddling around and getting up clsoe to iceburgs etc does. Anyone else doing the Kayaking? think of doing it? ( What a nice problem to have, hay!)
:?

Hey, I leave on the 15th ( and arrive on the 15th) so you'll get there before me. I was going to go from Santiago to BA literally back to back and then straight down to Ushiaia ( i think I'll get 2 days there before we leave) , going to look around Santiago on the way back. However still working it out. What was your plans? A few days in Santiago first? I've heard it worth looking around - a friend of mine has raved about it.

Hi Paul.
Great to hear your aboard with us. I'm an ameteur photgrapher ( very ameteur !! ) so I'll be very keen to hear your ideas.
Over the next few months, can you give me ( us) an idea of equipment to bring and that kind of thing? My main purpose for this trip is for the photography so i'll be especially appreciative of your advice.
(PS I'm a Nikon girl. IF your a Canon guy then we'll never get along  )
:-)

Great to hear you'll be on board with us Paul! :)

Just like Ashlee said, it would be great to get an idea of which lenses/equipment to bring. I'm tossing up bringing my 17-40mm wide-angle or just using my 24-105mm so i don't have to carry around/change lenses as often but i'm really not sure! haha

Ashlee - I'm a Canon girl...I hope we can get along? haha :P I'm also arriving into Ushuaia on the 15th (from BA), i haven't organised my accommodation prior to the trip in Ushuaia though, i'm considering The Antarctica Hostel - its fairly close to our joining hotel and it seems to get really good reviews :)

wanted to get this post out, as I am heading out friday for the ship which sails on monday up the west coast of Afirca. will be great to be back on board.

Ok, I shoot Canon (my sponsor) but was a nikon film camera user…best of both I think…

so what to bring camera wise.

-memory cards (tons)
-extra batteries (2 is good)
-a dry bag for decent camera bag between ship and land via zodiacs.
-large freezer bags for your camera as well, keeps them dry
-cleaner cloth or similar.
-UV filter
-polarizer great for sunny days and cutting through glare on the water
-tripod of mono pod, your call…great for inland when camping…

lens:
a wide angle is good for landscapes.
a zoom lens 200-300 range is ideal

from my experience shooting down there now 8 times, my 70-200 2.8 has been great.
I always have my 2X convertor as well. I got the pleasure of using a 300mm from while
there just this past december and january and it was the perfect focal length for my
in a lot of situations.

I supplement these lenses with a 16-35, 24-105 and 3 camera bodies…usually one is a back up
body and a point and shoot, which I mostly do video on.

that should get you going. I lecture on board a couple of times during the trip, and am always
around at night in the library for photo clinics and troubleshooting of any kind.

keep the questions coming…

cheers paul
