Indochina Discovery - Dep 13th November :)

Postby laura_fox » Sun Jun 16, 2013 2:25 pm

Hey All,

I am departing Bangkok on the Indochina Discovery on 13th November. I would love to catch up with anyone else on this trip or if anyone has already done this trip and could share their experience :D

Hi Laura,

I am doing the indochina discovery tour on Nov 13th as well! But I fly into Bangkok a few days beforehand. It's my first stop on a year long trip around the world, so don't really know what to expect :-)

Hi All,

Apologies for the very slow response!

Bangkok is the first stop on my travels so I only arrive the day before the trip starts. Following that I am off to Australasia for a year! I am really excited about the Asia trip though. I have travelled Thailand already and loved it but everyone says Vietnam is something else :)

Jordan it seems we will be travel buddies for a month, how exciting!!

What is everyone's travel plans after SE Asia?

Hi!

I am doing the Cambodia and Vietnam on a shoestring starting on the 13th of November so I think I will be joining you both for the first 20 days!

I am arriving the day before the trip starts as well, have you booked pre tour accommodation with G?

Hi Lucy,

I arrive into Bangkok on 12th Nov and I haven't booked my accommodation yet for that night. I looked at the arrival hotel they use independently and it was fully booked. I will probably just try to find somewhere near the station. Let me know if you find anything good!

Are you taking a holiday or doing Cambodia & Vietnam as part of your travels?

I am just in Cambodia and Vietnam for a holiday, I try and do at least one travelling holiday each year. I'm really looking forward to it! I see from your earlier messages you are off to Oz after Asia, I went to Australia earlier in the year and had an amazing time! Sounds like you have a great trip planned!

That's great! I spent a month in Oz at Christmas travelling the east coast and fell in love with the place so made the decision to return and do it properly. I am very excited to see how it all pans out. I really need to start and do some research into what we need for this trip. Do we need to arrange a Visa for Vietnam in advance?

I am also off to Australia afterwards around the end of December. Though I have spent a lot of time there in the past because my mother is Australian, it feels like more of a second home than a part of my travels. But I'd happily give you some advice of places to go and stay :) I'm lucky enough to have an Australian and British passport, and my family all live down the east coast.

After Australia I'm travelling New Zealand, Fiji, Haiwai and then the west coast of the USA. I have paid for my flights but haven't planned anything else yet.

I was planning on getting my Vietnamese visa in September but it seems like such a ball ache to get but I was going to get the Cambodian when we arrive there.

That is great news Maddy, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone! Are you travelling on anywhere after the trip or its it just a nice long holiday for you?

We haven't got long to go now......I am getting really excited.

I am arriving into Bangkok the day before, anyone got any suggestions for Accommodation? I have been to Bangkok before for a few days, several years ago, but can't for the life of me remember what part I stayed in!

Hey Laura,

I'm travelling for a couple of weeks beforehand and then 6 weeks after the trip, all in SE Asia!

I might just stay at the Bangkok Centre Hotel on the 12th... I emailed them and they said they confirmed my reservation, despite me reading elsewhere that they were booked haha. If not, maybe somewhere else nearby?

Another question for everyone: Are you putting down 20th Nov - 2nd Dec for your Vietnam visa's?
I'm just basing those dates on the itinerary but don't want to stuff it up ;)

Hi Maddy

I am staying there the night before as well!

Those dates look correct from the itinerary so I think that is what I will put as well.

Getting really excited, looking forward to meeting everyone too!
