Hi! Going on the trip starting June 29th. First time with Gadventure and looks like quite the itinerary and a long list of what to bring from G. Working on some of the prep today. Keeping a light load will be a bit of a challenge as it looks like we need to be prepared for rain, warm and cool days as well as cold nights. Looking forward to meeting fellow travelers; I understand there is currently 14 of us. BTW, I'm from California (northern) as is my friend who is also going (southern).

Which injections are you all getting? I'm getting Hep A and talking to my doctor about typhoid (already have Hep B).

I posted in the Destinations forum but got no response...I'm a little concerned about what to pack as I've been a bit unprepared for cold in the past. Any tips/research you can share, please do.

Also I arrive the night before so I'm looking to do a day tour of Ulaanbaatar on the Saturday if anyone else is interested.

So, based on the research on weather conditions, I'm preparing for warm to hot days and cool nights with expectation for some rain. So, not unlike where I live in Northern California, I'm going for layers. 2 long sleeved t-shirts, 4 t-shirts, 1-2 pair of "convertibles" (long pants that can be converted to shorts by unzipping 2/3s of the leg), a pair of sweat pants, pair of jeans, pair of shorts, rain jacket (could also take a poncho) pullover sweatshirt and a hoodie. Taking a pair of sport sandals, which are good for light hikes, water, walks and a pair of low hiking boots. So, those are the basics, along with socks and "delicates". That is about what will fit in my 60L +10 backpack, along with a few other supplies, such as the sleep sheet, light towel and first aide kit.

Hope this helps! Arriving Friday night via Seoul, so will have the day Saturday as well.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Anyone else flying in through Seoul on the 28th? I'm on Korean Air fl #867 with departure at 7:55 p.m. I've booked transportation from the airport to the hotel.

Not me, I'm via Beijing. Denise - I think you have it right re: packing. I talked to a friend who spent almost a month (August) in Mongolia and she said to be prepared for everything weatherwise. I will be bringing lots of layerable, sporty clothing (we won't need to dress up). It gets hotter near the desert, of course. The gers often have stoves for warmth at night. Right now, looks quite warm there during the day with a drop at night, but that's the forecast for UB only. It only rained once when she was there.

She says that outside UB, there are really no amenities such as ATMs but it doesn't seem like we will need much money anyway. The touristy ger camps -might- have internet access but I think we can count on mostly being off the grid (which I don't mind). She had a fantastic time.

Helpful reply to my post here - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25006
My friend who has been made the same point around lack of bathrooms/privacy while on the road. Also good to have tissues/TP.
