Hello! My name is Sioned and I am from Wales. Starting to think about buying some gear for the trip and had a look through the itinerary where I found details of this forum. Pleased to see that some of you have been interacting already... and thought I would gatecrash!;-) Have you heard from any others that have joined? A friend of mine Catrin is also coming with me, she is also Welsh. What are you doing about a sleeping bag? Hope to hear from you soon, Sioned.

Hello! Good to hear from someone. :)

I haven't yet assessed what I need to purchase. I have a good sleeping bag, but need to look into whether it is worth packing. Still need to apply for my visa, as well. I know you can get it at the airport in Nepal, but would rather avoid the long lines I've heard about. Are you staying any extra days after the trip? I'm there one extra day.

Hey! Yeah, I'm definitely going to sort out my visa before getting there. Unfortunately I have to leave straight after the trip as I have to return to work but my friend Catrin is staying for three days. It's the season that is confusing me...they say winter is December - March & a - 20 sleeping bag is required...but as we are going at the VERY end of winter maybe a four seasons sleeping bag will be sufficient? I don't forking out if I really need to but also don't want to waste my cash. However, I just cannot risk getting cold. I think I need to do some more detailed research before making the call! I got my boots yesterday....now to start walking!:-/

Almost time to go!!! I think it just hit me and I'm finally getting my head together. I think I have all my gear, but am also unsure about weather. Did you find anything in your research?

I'm coming from Victoria,BC, Canada and I'm arriving late March 30th and leaving on a late flight on April 15th. Thinking of flying to Pokhara for a night after the trek but not 100% sure yet. I'd like to try hang gliding there, I've heard it is an amazing experience.

I'm going to rent a sleeping bag there, I've got most of my gear ready. I did some research and sounds like the weather is unpredictable and there can be snow in April but for the most part not nearly as cold as Dec-Feb. So I've decided to pack for "spring" conditions. Hope I'm right! :) Worst case, if I'm wrong, I figure I have a whole day in Kathmandu to pick up extra gear if needed! Looking forward to the trip, ~3 weeks to go!

Hey! Yeah, got the vast majority of kit now. I did buy a sleeping bag in the end & also have already got my visa through. I need to change my currency , get one pair of waterproof trousers, need to sort socks & underwear ....and then I THINK I'm sorted! Are you guys taking Malaria tablets?

I should have my visa within a week and I think I'm mostly done with gear. Just need a duffel. Nothing I have seems to be the right size. Had most things already, but starting to get a little anxiety about freezing my butt off so I'm resisting buying everything I see. :)

I arrive at 9am on the 31st (after almost two days in airports/on planes...ugh). Anyone else around that time?

Also, I did get Malaria pill, but still debating taking them. Doc said to wait til I got there to see what it's like and to ask the tour guide about the conditions.

I also have altitude meds. Got sick when I did Kilimanjaro, hoping this time won't be the same!

I am not bringing malaria pills. I was told that they are only needed for south Nepal & I don't plan on going to the south.

Here's a "malaria" map of Nepal:
http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-(east)/nepal/nepal-malaria-map.aspx

But I am bringing diamox for altitude sickness! Hopefully won't need them!

I arrive 11pm on the 30th and am staying at a hotel nearby and then moving the next day to the hotel where the tour begins. I have two days of travel too! :(

Hey! Yup, I have Diamox too. Decided against Malaria tablets. Going to spend some of today printing my etickets etc... all getting very real. Myself & Catrin are also arriving at 22.45pm on the 30th 'robyntoor' but we are actually staying at the hotel where the tour starts on that evening too so we probably wouldn't gain anything by meeting after landing as we wouldn't be able to share transport etc anyway and it will be late.. and we will be grumpy after the travelling!!!;-) How much walking/ hiking/ exercising have you all been doing? Do you feel physically ready?
