mosquito nets on mayan adventure?

Postby Emy » Mon Mar 26, 2007 9:05 am

Hi

I just wanted to ask if it is advised to bring a mosquito net to this trip or if it is this not necessary?

Regards

Emy

Mosquito Nets

Hi!

We do suggest that you take insect repellent (natural as opposed to DEET based products) but it is not necessary to take a Mosquito Net with you.

I'm sorry, my english is not that good:

when you say: "insect repellent (natural as opposed to DEET based products)"
does it mean that It has to be natural, or DEET based or both? I'm not sure.
sorry

It means: Do not bring a DEET based product.
Whatever you bring should not burden the environment, hence natural is always the best bet. If you go to an outdoors outfitter, they have great choices for natural soaps, insect repellent, etc etc.

Can you pick up a natural insect repellent in Peru? My quart bag of liquids/lotions is getting full, and I am afraid I won't be able to fit a lot more in it. If this is available there, I could wait to get it.

Does anyone know??

repellant

Hi,

I don't remember specifically seeing natural repellent in Cuzco; though I remember thinking they had absolutely everything. It may cost more there. As far as the quart of liquids is concerned, are you planning on traveling with just a carry on? It is obviously great when you can do it, though I don't think I would sacrifice gear in favor of no checked luggage.

Cheers,

I am managing to get everything into a carry-on, and it will simplify my travels. I have made a few changes to my liquid/lotion inventory, and my insect repellent fits... I can only bring 2oz at any rate... I did get some with a small amount of DEET, as the CDC says take DEET (I found a 17% DEET product). I intend to use it sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary.
