Strength of Insect Repellant

Postby fingerprint » Sat May 25, 2013 11:16 am

Hi!

I would like to know what strength of deet/insect repellent you would recommend for traveling in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand?

I'll be going in July on the essential Vietnam and Cambodia tour.

Cheers.

Usually at least 30% is recommended. You can get higher concentrations but then you have to weigh the toxicity. Personally, I'd go for the lower concentration in a cream rather than spray. That way you know you've covered the areas you need to cover. Sprays can provide random coverage unless you use them all the time and are really good at applying!
I will never let my dreams just be dreams.

We are taking the 30% deet. This is recommended by all of the travel clinics.

Watkins, Muskol, and Ben's carry 30% deet repellants. You can get them at the outdoor shops.

Our travel doctor in Canada said that Permethrin (which is used on clothing and such) is not available in Canada anymore. It is too toxic.
It's the journey, not the destination.
