Malaria Areas

Postby jwillis50 » Fri Mar 29, 2013 5:35 pm

I'm doing the Thailand on a Shoestring and the Mayan Encounter trips and was just wondering what the supplies are like in the malaria areas?
Do we need to bring our own mosquito nets? And presumably sleeping bags for the hiking part in Thailand?

Nets were provided everywhere they were known to be an issue. Doesn't hurt to pack a little duct tape in case there's a snare or rip in the net.

Another question - on the malaria maps most of Thailand is fine, only the land borders are a problem for malaria. Does the hill trek go into malaria areas near the border or stay near enough chiang mai to avoid them? Thanks!
