Quest of the Gods - sleeping bags and other

Postby cbaerg@continuity.ca » Tue Mar 26, 2013 11:22 pm

Hi

Just wondering about sleeping bags for the inca trail. The information on the trip indicates we can rent the sleeping bag needed for the hike, and we are wondering about the quality of the sleeping bags that will be available. We have previously done Kilimanjaro, (not with gap adventures) and we had the option to rent sleeping bags as well. We ended up taking out own sleeping bags on that trip and were quite happy we did, as it turned out then local supply wasn't necessarily warm enough, and quality seemed very dependent on what happened to be on hand at the time.

So I am wondering if Gap has its own supply of sleeping bags for rent for the hike, and if we can then count on getting a good warm sleeping bag.

Also wondering if we leave some gear in Puerto Maldonado before heading out to rainforest?

Thanks so much!

G Adventures supplies the rental sleeping bags. They seemed clean and in good repair but I found the one I had was too short to be honest and slept in clothes to keep my shoulders warm. (I'm 5'9") They also rent mattress pads which I would definitely recommend.
In Puerto Maldonado they'll store most of your belongings as you'll only take with you what you need for the few days you are in the rain forest. They will give you a duffle bag to take these items in.
Hope this helps!
If it does not bring you joy, why are you doing it?

Hi, we were just there last week, and we brought our own sleeping bags. The good side to that is it's your own one, but you will need to carry it the rest of your trip. They will provier you with a duffle bag and the maximum weight is 6kg. The sleeping bag they provide is about 2kg, mine is 1.3kg. It may be an extra t-shirt. Also, depending on when you are going, (Winter begins in June and it will get colder) it's really not that cold. I slept outside my bag on the last night!

But what I suggest is rent or bring an air mattres, the one they provide are mery thin! I'm glad I brought mine.

Enjoy
