Luggage On A Tour

I know that this will seem a silly question but I would like my mind to be at ease!

Would someone be able to tell me what happens with your backpack etc when you are off visiting the sites of where you are? For example, are the kept locked in the bus or back at the hostel etc?

I'm headed to S.E. Asia this year so obviously I'd like to know what's happening with my possessions!

Usually it will be in your hotel room. If you have a stop en-route to a hotel, then it will stay locked in the bus.
