Borneo - Malaria
Hi guys
I'm booked onto the Borneo Encompassed tour soon and was just wondering if anyone has on the ground experience of this tour and the need to take malaria tablets. Alot of the websites give conflicting advice and from experience are vastly over cautious and exaggerate the malaria threat.
Any advice greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Re: Borneo - Malaria
Hi
I did the 2010 version of this. I usually don't worry about malaria tablets when travelling, but I took them of this trip because of the jungle trekking part. I had no side effects whatsoever (apart from not one stomach upset!), although some people on my trip did.
Having said that, the only thing I was bitten by in the jungle was a leach. I was probably sweating too much during the trek so I think any mossies would have simply slid off!
We had mosquito nets in many places so they weren't a bother during the night. I still covered up and wore DEET as it is possible to get malaria even when taking medication.
Hope you enjoy your trip. The pygmy elephants were a highlight on the Kinabatangan River.
