Applying for Vietnamese Visa in Ottawa

Postby ihearttea » Thu Sep 20, 2012 11:12 am

Hello everyone!

I'm going on the Roam Cambodia trip in December and am in the process of applying for my Vietnamese tourist visa. I just called the Vietnamese consulate located in Ottawa (I live in Toronto) and they told me that it's okay if I mail in a photocopy of my passport and that I don't actually need to mail in my passport.

I know that this is the consulate and what they say should be true, but none of the research I've read online regarding applying for a Vietnamese visa in Canada implied that sending a photocopy of your passport was an option. I'm just afraid that my application will be rejected because of this. I also travel a lot for my job, and my supervisor said if I need to be without my passport I need to mail it in "rush" right now because I will probably need to be shipped out next week. But if I don't need to pay for "rush" service and can have my passport with me, that would be great and I'd rather send photocopies so I can do my job. I can't be without my passport in October or November.

Should I just believe the person on the phone and just send a photocopy of my passport instead of mailing it in?

Thanks for any advice/knowledge/suggestions! :)

It's all good - I got an e-mail back from them that said copies of passports are acceptable :)
