5% discount for past travelers.

Hello,

I completed my first GAP a few weeks back and am now ready to book another one :twisted:

After completing the evaluation of the first tour, I was promised a 5% discount ''that we will keep on your file''. I never received a coupon code or anything. Now, when I go to enter my details for the new tour, I can't find a box or anything to tick to tell them I am a returning customer, so does that mean that:

a) it will only appear when I make the final payment on the tour?
b) I have to call in to book the new tour and let a living-breathing human being know about the 5%?
c) I'm stuck going thru the TA I used on the first tour, because only them can make changes to my file?

C would really suck as I hate going thru a third party for something that I can do myself...I don't even know why I used one the first time arounf :oops:

I have always booked my tours directly with GAP. When I speak with a rep via their toll free number, they have always had my 5% discount in the database and it was immediately applied to the total cost of the trip. Never a problem. The deposit amount remains the same. I might note that from watching this board for several years it appears using a travel agent sometimes leads to issues, ie, not being provided with complete or fully accurate info, etc. IMHO, go with GAP directly.

When you book on line you will receive a fair number of emails. Just respond on one of them requesting the discount. Then you don't need to sit on the telephone.

A good travel agent should do this for you...its too bad it sounds like you don't have a good one.
When I've applied the discounts for my clients in the past, I like to make the booking myself and then just call them to have them look up your discount and apply it.

GAP has an internal customer number they use to track you and all the trips you've taken with them. I believe it's listed on your e-mail invoice. You can always e-mail and ask them for the customer number or when you book your next trip you can ask if they have a record of your previous trips.

I booked directly through GAP for two trips I took in 2008. In 2011, I booked another trip and was surprised to discover the 5% discount. I'd totally forgotten about it and was pleased that it had been "held" for me for three years!

The discount should be automatically applied to your payment when you book through GAP; if not then just call or email customer service.

As a side note, I'm not sure why anyone would use a travel agent when you can just book directly though this website.

Yes, me too. I had totally forgotten about the 5% and just last week put my deposit on my next trip. When I received my confirmation email, voila! There it was!
Thanks Gap (or should I say G) for taking care of me and making it easy.
Totally agree with booking on line, super easy and you are assigned a CEO that will take care of you and answer any questions.
If it does not bring you joy, why are you doing it?

So I have booked, and paid for my second Gap Tour through an agent and leave for the Ultimate Africa next month.

I had no clue about the 5% and I my travel agent obviously didn't either.

Could I reclaim this? 5% of the total cost of the Ultimate Africa tour would really come in handy..
