sleeping bag for Botswana to vic falls trip

Postby manic mom » Mon Jun 20, 2011 5:30 pm

hi

Anyone know what sort of sleeping bag to take on the July departure to Botswana? A couple of nights we are sleeping outside - no tent! Will it be cold at night?

I traveled from Vic Falls through Botswana to Jo'burg about two years ago. Weather was generally very warm, a couple nights I actually slept on top of the sleeping bag rather than in it. I would advice something rated to about 50 F (10 C) just in case it's cooler but you can probably get away with 60-70 F (15-20 C).

Even though its their winter, I'd still only run with a 2 season sleeping bag max. If you need extra warmth (which you probably wont) then you can just rely on an extra fleece and possibly a pair of socks, which I'd have with you anyway, even if you only use them for an odd evening here or there or your return journey home!

Enjoy!
