Shoes ANRT

Postby freebird » Sat Apr 30, 2011 1:38 pm

Hi,
I am going on the High Road to Tibet trip in June. I am wondering what kind of shoes are needed. Would my trusty Birkenstocks carry me through, or do I need closed toe hiking boots or shoes, or possibly vented hiking shoes?
Thanks for any advice.

This trip has a physical grade of 4. Meaning that you could be hiking up to 8 hrs. If you can comfortably hike 8 hrs in them then I see no problem, however personally I would take my trusty hiking boots.

I haven't been on the High Road to Tibet trip but I've done the Yunnan and Tibet Adventure last august which in Tibet has a very similar itinerary to the ANRT trip you have booked.

As I know Birkenstock's as open sandals they are not enough for Tibet. You could take them as a second pair of shoes for your time in Kathmandu but be aware that some streets in Thamel - that's the area where the GAP hotel is located - are not paved either. I weared my trainers most of the time in Tibet and I was really fine with them. In Kathmandu I walked around with my trekking sandals those five days I was there and they were good for that.

If you have more questions according Tibet or Kathmandu don't hesitate to ask.

Happy travels :)
