Advice on visas to enter Kenya

Postby fotoman » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:08 pm

Does anyone have experience with obtaining their entry visas in Nairobi when they get to Kenya? I'll be leaving at the end of April for the Kenya Wildlife Adventure. But due to other travel in early April, I don't have enough time to send my passport away to get the Kenyan visa before I leave for the trip.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Not sure where you're coming from but US and Canadian citizens have had no problems getting their visas at the airport in Nairobi. In fact, it was not only easier but cheaper when I did it in 2009 -- the one gal on the tour who got her visa ahead of time spent more on the visa PLUS had to pay for couriering. I don't know about you but I don't like having my passport in the mail so I'd just get the visa at the airport.

Thanks. I totally agree. I'm really hesitant about sending my passport through the mail. I'm coming from Canada, so hopefully obtaining a visa in Nairobi is still fairly easy.

I have booked Kenya/Tanzania Wildlife for July and the GAP rep advised me to get my VISA at the airport in Nairobi so I think you'd be the same situation.

I just returned from the Kenya Wildlife Adventue tour at the end of February and I live in Canada as well. It took only 15 minutes total to get my visa at the Nairobi Airport and cost $25 usd. Make sure you have the cash as that is all that is accepted and exact change speeds up the process. The trip was fantastic and I hope you have as good a trip as I did. Bon Voyage.

Thanks for the info! It's put my mind to ease....I'm really looking forward to this trip. Something I've wanted to do for a very long time.

All the best.

I will miss you by a week, I'm going on the one leaving July 17th. That's too bad, I'm also going from Toronto! I think we are back in Nairobi on July 24th so maybe we will see you at the hotel. That's the day in between the Kenya and Tanzania portion for us. Have fun, I can't wait either!

Is there anyone of you guys who has experience with crossing the Kenya-Uganda border.
Can you buy your Uganda visa easily at the border?
I don't like sending my pasport to get my visa, but if i will have troubles by getting it at the border... it's the only solution.

Thx

Jolene --

Try to send a PM to voidczech. She crossed the border from Uganda to Kenya a couple years ago when she went from gorilla watching to joining us for the overland from Nairobi to Jo'burg.

When you get your visas at the borders, do they require you to give them a passport sized photo or do you just fill out a form and pay the fee?

you just fill in a form & pay the money, photos are not required. they will scan your fingerprints when you enter.
