Costa Rica in early October

Postby alpenglowmedia » Sun May 16, 2010 2:24 pm

Hello!

October 1 is my 50th birthday, and I wanted to do something special, exotic and adventurous for it. I also wanted to get married to my lovely fiancée at the same time. I'm not someone who likes to travel in a group, so I was very attracted to the Independent style 14 day Costa Rica Multi Sport trip, as I feel it would offer the most bang for the buck and not entail traveling a very long way just to get to the destination. I have three series of questions, please:

1. I hear the end of September/beginning of October in most of CR is dreadful with constant downpours and roads being washed out. Is this true? If I am on the trip at this time, wont the rafting, biking, and other activities be canceled due to the rain? If so, what are the alternatives, other than sitting in the bar at the local hotel? If it's just afternoon rain I'm not too concerned, but I don't wish to spend the entire trip waterlogged. Has anyone been there during this time and how bad is the rain?

2. What exactly does an Independent-style trip entail? I noticed they are more expensive than a group tour. What exactly am I getting and how do I have the freedom to come and go if it seems there is a set itinerary?

3. I really want to get married on the beach sometime during our trip, even if it is a 'symbolic' ceremony and not entirely official. Is there a way for a non-denominational ceremony to be arranged in advance? Does anyone have an idea of what this may cost and if it is something I can reasonably expect to be able to do sometime during my trip?

If anyone has any better suggestions about someplace not too far from the US I can go for a couple weeks as a combination 50th birthday trip/wedding destination/honeymoon that won't cost an arm and a leg, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for reading this and/or taking the time to respond.

Peace Always ~

Chris
