hiking boots for S.Africa Overland

Postby erin.e » Mon May 07, 2007 2:51 pm

Just wondering if hiking boots made for hiking the Canadian rockies (all season) would be too cumbersome and heavy/hot? Any ideas on wether I should invest in more of a summer hiking shoe vs. all season hiking boot?

Thanks!
Erin

It depends on what time of the year you are planning to do the trip. June to August is winter, but still not as cold as Canada I suppose, so don't bring snow boots!
To give you a good idea what the "locals" (i.e. us South African's) wear, you could visit any of the following websites. These are the best Outdoor chainstores and have a rather small but sufficient sellection of boots for trekking and general. Mostly Hi-Tech boots and shoes are very popular with us (I actually thought Hi-Tech was a local brand, because it's everywhere around) So, anything in that class should be okay.
But it also depends on what your tour envolves. If you will be walking in the bush, do rather wear high boots. If not then any good sturdy shoe type will do.
Enjoy! :)
