Bachelor Party Ideas
Hi all,
We are planning a bachelor party for a friend but we are tired with the traditional Vegas, New York, or Montreal trips. Ideally it would be a 3 or 4 night weekend somewhere that has a good party scene. It would be awesome if the price including flight from Toronto is kept under $1000.
Some of the places we were thinking about include Costa Rica, Brazil, etc. But I'm not sure if it's realistic considering the restriction on money spent.
Any ideas?

Not sure about the cost from Toronto but what about New Orleans - real good time to be had there

Iceland! 5.5 hours from Toronto and you can get a flight for as low as $500 after the summer. Depends when the party will be though; I wouldn't suggest going in the winter, since it's too dark and snowy/rainy.
Rio would be perfect if you can swing it, but flight alone is usually $750 to over $1000. New Orleans is a great suggestion.
Dublin? Miami? Cancun?

What time of year? New Orleans just screams "bachelor party", but the heat/humidity in summer is brutal. Costa Rica is also doable, flights during summer are usually pretty cheap, not as much of a party scene as an outdoorsy scene, but don't tell that to a Tico! Plenty of fun to be had at night just about anywhere, I would imagine.

Some different options below...agree with all other posts so far, but Brazil is a stretch, you'd be flying for 1/3rd of your time. If you consider Brazil then you have to consider 1/2 of Europe too.
What about....
East coast Moncton or St John's
Bermuda
Trinidad & Tobago
Colombia

New Orleans is a great idea! Fly from Buffalo, though. Last time we went we saved $200 per TICKET by flying from Buffalo rather than Toronto. Sheesh! The taxes here are killers on flight costs. That'll buy you an extra night and a few drinks, and a swamp tour, and a...well you get the idea!

Awesome feedback! I love you guys! Those are some great suggestions. I would do all of those places but unfortunately the group is restricted by the almighty dollar. Ideally flight and accomodations would be under $1000 for a five day weekend (although we might be able to do 7 days if the costs made sense).
The list so far (because I love lists):
Rio in Brazil
Desirable but might be too expensive. Party scene would be great.
New Orleans
Near the top of the list with costs being manageable. Is it just a drunken free for all if we go during Mardi Gras? Is there more to do?
Iceland
Very interesting. Would it be a good destination for 8 guys to let loose?
Dublin
Another interesting choice but some in the group have already been.
Mexico, Cancun, Cuba, Bermuda, Trinidad
Great places but we go on a large group beach trip every December so we'd lean towards something else.
Miami
Possible option but again, some of the guys have been.
Costa Rica
Seems like a cool place but not sure if there is a party scene. What part of Costa Rica would we fly into?
Colombia
Interesting. Is there a party scene? Where would we fly into?

Re: Bachelor Party Ideas
Iceland - check out the alcohol prices before you go - it has always been well known that the prices were crippling - ie 9-10 US dollars for a beer! BUT their economy crashed in a major way so it is reportedly much cheaper now. That alone could kill a party!!!
What time of year do you go? Winter would be awesome!
I have been looking at Costa Rica for a visit myself - seems their is a big party scene on its beaches (and surfing scene is big) - which your ruling out? Other things to do in CR are for me - the ZIP lining - which looks awesome, the volcano trekking and the National Parks look amazing.

Re: Bachelor Party Ideas
I was looking into Iceland in July and it is NOT cheap...even with the collapsed economy the prices are still very high. As Zuleika mentioned the food & especially drinks are expensive and not great for a bachelor party unless you intend to stay dry
Rio as a city is very cheap...I don't know the flight prices from Toronto but do look into it. You can keep the costs low if you get an apartment in a local area just slightly away from Copacabana!

Re: Bachelor Party Ideas
A beer in Iceland is about US$5. I went in October, and found the prices to be comparable to those in New York. Prices are also very seasonal - if you go between June and August or on big holidays like New Year, airfare and hotels are 2 to 3 times more expensive than they are during the rest of the year.
I actually didn't find Rio to be cheap at all, probably because I had just came from Argentina. Buenos Aires has tons of bars, clubs and restaurants, and everything is half to a third of price that they are in Rio. There's no beach, but there is a ferry to Punta del Este in Uruguay if you want some beach time.
