what to wear (antartica)

Famous for its enormous icebergs, towering glaciers and shimmering summer light, Antarctica offers some of the planet's most awe inspiring landscapes. The North Atlantic and Arctic evoke images of sparse snow covered lands, but when summer comes it bursts with colour and life.

Hello David, thanks for your feedback about the MS Expedition Parka. I booked an artic trip and I need to choose a size for the parka. I'm hesitating as the measures do not necessarily correspond to what I usually wear. What do you think about the size compared to other brands of parkas available on the market ? Does it fit tight or large ? ( I usually wear M size but here S seem better ...)

We are going on the March 12, 2015 Antarctica Expedition and are beginning to compile the clothing we need for the trip. I have looked at many of the comments & suggestions and they are very helpful. I see the term "FLEECE" used frequently. Could someone please give me a good explanation of what a fleece is. Excuse my ignorance, but we live in Arizona USA and have practically NO need for cold weather clothing. :D Thanks

Hi Schungy

Just to give you an update on Fleece. A warm jacket with full zip or half zip. Can be got with a hood or not. Made of warm material. Light to pack instead of jumpers. Various colours. A bit like thermal outer wear. various makers, north face, tog24 any outdoor adventure place would have them. The Parkas are very warm. I wore a fleece all the time while on Realm of the Polar Bear trip. handy for moving around the ship. Some parts were cooler and I did not want to be bringing heavy parka everywhere  The parkas have thermal inner jackets which you can separate if you want something lighter. One or two fleece would be fine wearing long sleeve top thermal wear underneath them.

Hope this helps!

cheers
