Antarctica photos November/december 2012

Famous for its enormous icebergs, towering glaciers and shimmering summer light, Antarctica offers some of the planet's most awe inspiring landscapes. The North Atlantic and Arctic evoke images of sparse snow covered lands, but when summer comes it bursts with colour and life.

A selection of photos from the first 3 trips of the antarctic season on board the M/S Expedition, where I joined the expedition team as expedition photographer.

Hi Paul & any other photographers out there...

I am going to Antarctica in January and have a Canon SX50 which has a very long zoom.
Are there generally any issues with cameras not performing low termperatures? Is there anything I can do to prevent issues?
Thanks!

the biggest problem with the cold, is your battery drain, so bring plenty of extras and keep
them warm in a pocket or next to your body.

keep your camera away from moisture and keep it covered when on a zodiac so you
protect it against salt spray and such. Ziplock freezer bags are perfect for keeping them
dry inside a camera bag. Or better put everything in a dry bag when going on land.
