Spam posters

Postby Sierra_Travels » Sat Jul 28, 2007 1:25 pm

Suggestion: it would be great if the forums had a 'report this post' button for anti-spam!

Great idea - in fact, it already exists!
Scroll down to the very bottom of any page and you'll see three links. One to our website, one to our privacy policy and one to 'report spam'.

Essentially all you need to do is email forum@gap.ca with the subject line 'report spam' and a link to the post.

Cheers!

since this forum is using phpBB, there are many plugins available to disable spam posters or to allow easier reporting (like a button to click rather than having to fire up a separate email). phpBB is easily extensible, the forum dev's could/should be able to implement something to cut down on spam.

Thanks autark....perhaps our link isn't intuitive or convenient enough.
:D
We'll look at adding a more prominent button. Good feedback.

To date we've banned 115 spammers from our forum thanks to our vigilant moderators and friendly posters!!

Agreed, if we could report spam from within the forum it'd be incredibly helpful. I just tried to mail in reports on some spam that's appeared on the forums and it bounced back the email as "undeliverable to that address". (copied the email directly from this post, too. :( )

Hi Sierra Travels,

There was a server upgrade over the long weekend and email addresses were unavailable for several hours. I just did a test and the "report spam" email address is working now.

cheers,
Steve
