Gift for Homestay in China?

Gift for Homestay in China?

Postby briwyn » Wed May 08, 2013 8:39 am

Hi all,
I leave for the China Adventure (ACBH) in a week. I assume its customary to leave a gift with the family we are doing the homestay with, but what type of gift is appropriate? Silly little souvenirs from our home country or something more elaborate? If the latter, are there suggestions so I don't break any cultural norms (a friend unwittingly gave a Chinese family a clock - bad idea). I assume the families are relatively well off and not in need of necessities like clothes, etc., or am I wrong?

Thanks so much!

I would say bring along something sweet like chocolates and maybe a postcard or
a picture book with some pictures of your home (just something as a little thanks you for your stay in their home).

The people at the homestay on Russia didn't looked that wealthy (but not that poor, as to bring them clothes or something like that)
