Is Tezpur, Assam Safe??

Hi,

Has anyone been to Tezpur, Assam, recently? I'm planning to travel there in January with an Indian friend of mine. In recent light of the ethnic violence outbreak at the Assam/Bangladesh border, we are wondering if it is okay to fly from Calcutta to Tezpur and it is relatively safe to travel around the Tezpur area?

Appreciate any advice :)
